East Timor

For 500 years, the island nation of Timor has been controlled at the hands of others. First the Portuguese, then the Indonesians. Recently the East Timorese people had a real chance to master their own destiny.

But, instead of jubilation, the aftermath of the ballot resulted in an atmosphere of terror and fear.

Typically the average family in East Timor are the ones to suffer as a result of this instability. Plan is committed to helping make a difference to their lives. Plan's approach is always to work with communities so that change is instigated and directed by local people. Our experience has proven that success is assured if local knowledge, systems and resources are integrated in their development process.

With the help of our supporters, Plan can make a positive impact on the lives of children in East Timor.
